An experienced post-secondary educator and academic researcher, David Dessler is a former tenured professor with the Department of Government at the College of William & Mary. He received his BA in history and BS in physics from The University of Oklahoma and MA and PhD in government/international studies from The Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies in Washington, DC. David Dessler credits his diverse educational background for his interest and skill in various areas of political science, including the theory of the international system, political economy, quantitative analysis, the philosophy of science, and the history of international politics.
David Dessler has received a number of awards for his teaching and is also a respected researcher and writer. To advance their own studies, his fellow scholars have drawn upon his work as a researcher and writer on a variety of subjects related to political science and international relations. Perhaps his most widely cited article, “Beyond Correlations: Toward a Causal Theory of War” appeared in the peer-reviewed International Studies Quarterly in September of 1991.
